Popular resorts
on the Costa Brava
Lloret de Mar. Today's Lloret -
although much larger than the fishing village it was 40 years ago - is
a modern resort that still retains some historical treasures.
Despite becoming a thriving tourist town, Lloret has managed to keep
its character, and remains a lively, friendly and engaging town. The
resort's main street bustles with life day and night. The rocky
coastline is dotted with bays.
Tossa de Mar.
Tossa de Mar offers
an old town and 14th Century castle and two beaches. Opposite
the main sand and shingle beach you will find plenty of restaurants.
Formerly a fishing village, Tossa (The Castle on the Sea) is a
charming town, rich in history and overflowing with sights.
Situated in the heart of the Costa Brava, the fortress can still be
explored in the quarter known as the Villa Vella, all thick defensive
walls and sturdy towers. The castle, constructed in 1187, is also
worth a visit.
Estartit.
Estartit is a small resort of friendly hotels
and cosy apartments, edging up the sides of a wooded hillside. A
centre of wide streets and a welcoming square beside the town
church. And a dark golden beach that's so large there's plenty of
room for everyone
Pais. Tranqil Pals is one of the
best preserved medieval villages in Catalonia's coastal area. The
quiet, walled old quarter has been restored, making a pretty place to
explore, with views of the beach in the distance. The long beach and
lush golf courses of Platja de Pals are just six kilometres from Pals
village.
Santa Susanna. This small and
friendly resort in Costa Maresme, boasts 2km of coarse sand beach with
a lively promenade. Santa Susana is a pleasant, relaxing town nestling
beneath the wooded slopes of the Massif Montnegre, a beautiful
national park with marked trails and fabulous views.
Malgrat. Long sandy beaches and a
coastal railway connecting the town to the neighbouring resorts make Malgrat a popular modern tourist destination.
Calella de Palafruguell. A
charming part of the Costa Brava coastline that's different from a
traditional beach holiday with fascinating architecture and museums,
traditional restaurants, and some great walks.
Calella. Calella is a young a
lively town, the busiest town in the south of the Costa Brava on a
stretch known as the Costa del Maresme. Famous for its mild climate
and lively holiday towns, this is a 50km stretch of long sandy
beaches, attractive towns, mountains and ancient vineyards.
