Salou, Costa Dorada

Newly refurbished, modern apartments (some of which are residential) are well equipped for all family needs and helpful staff ensure a smooth holiday. The view from the sun-trap terrace is outstanding, but the walk to the beach and the resort centre is rather hilly. The smaller beaches nearby are good for children, while watersports are available in high season.

This is a small, friendly, family run apartment complex situated between Cambrils and Salou offering clean, value for money accommodation a short stroll from the long sandy beach of Villa Forton. and with a pool on site.

Salou, Costa Dorada

Set right in the centre of town, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within striking distance and it's just a five to ten minute stroll down to the beach. Portaventura is only a short bus ride away.

The Costa Dorada is known as the Golden Coast because of the colour of its sand. The golden tingle of the fine sand of its beaches is due to them facing southeast as well as the intensity of the suns rays.
The Costa Dorada stretches from Barcelona to south of Tarragona in the Catalonia region. Twenty towns make up the Costa Dorada and beaches there are huge.

Costa Dorada offers an all year round warm climate with the long sandy beaches, which shelve gently into the shimmering Mediterranean, offering safe swimming even for small children and plenty of water sports. The Costa Dorada is in a picturesque setting of palm-fringed promenades, traditional whitewashed houses and narrow streets lined with bars, cafes and shops.

A visit to Universal Studios theme park PortAventura is a must. This huge theme park is fun for all ages with white knuckle rides, live shows an water rides. Aquopolis is another great family day out. This water park has various water rides and slides. You can visit Barcelona taking a look around the famous Sagrada Familia before making your way to the beautiful Parque Guell or the Olympic Port before a visit to Montjuic for the view over the city. Or go to Barcelona's famous Nou Camp football stadium and then head off to Barcelona zoo. The resorts of the Costa Dorada make a perfect base to discover the historical town of Tarragona and Montserrat - said to be the most impressive landmark in Spain.

Popular resorts on the Costa Dorada

Cambrils. Quieter than Salou, but nevertheless a popular resort in its own right, Cambrils is a pretty working fishing community with a sandy beach, busy harbour and marina. Cambrils is known as the gastronomic heartland of the Costa Dorada. This fishing town turned holiday resort is a seafood lover's dream, with the freshest fish landed daily and with the fruits of the farms and hills including olive oil, chorizo sausage and fruity wines. From the marina a path follows the Garbi river inland, past an ancient sanctuary and watchtower. Archeological excavations near to town, which you can visit, show that this area has been popular for thousands of years.

Salou. The party hot spot of the Costa Dorada. Salou welcomes over 2 million visitors a year. This lively resort has a wide beach of gently shelving sand, backed by a tree-lined promenade with restaurants, shops and bars and plenty of bars and discos. Check out where the locals eat so that you can sample some of Catalan's dishes like "torrada de pa amb tomàquet" which is toasted bread topped with olive oil, tomatoes and garlic. For peace the Elbro Delta National Park is a great optionTo the east of Salou's main beach, is the resort of Cap Salou.

Cap Salou. Two kilometres from Salou, Cap Salou is quieter with attractive streets alongside an undulating coastline with pretty, wooded areas and several smaller beaches.

La Pineda. Pineda is close to Salou and has a long stretch of beach that backs on to its well known waterpark. Of the three resorts along this stretch of the Costa Dorada, La Pineda appeals most to couples or families with young children who love the fact that La Pineda offers all the thrills of nearby Salou, with none of the all-night bars which aren't to everyone's taste.

PortAventura. Near the beautiful beaches of the Costa Dorada lies Europe's only Universal Studio's Resort: PortAventura.

Sitges. One of the most fashionable clubbing resorts in Spain. A Bohemian atmosphere and parties through the night give the town bags of energy and life. Sitges boasts 17 beaches stretching for 4km, from small sandy coves to long golden beaches.
