Aegean to the Balkan countries, Greece offers enough to fill months of travel. Diverse islands, a different culture and a relaxed way of life along with golden beaches and sparkling seas has made Greece and its islands a popular holiday destination.
Beaches stretch out along a convoluted coastline equal in length to those of France. The islands range from sleepy backwaters where the ferry calls twice a week to resorts as cosmopolitan as any in the Mediterranean.
The Cycladic island of Paros for instance has more ferry traffic than any other island due to being between Athens and the well known islands of Mykonos and Santorini. Non-stop the island can be covered in less than hour, but there are far too many sandy beaches to explore.
Then there is Skiathos which, in common with most Greek islands, Skiathos enjoys a beautiful climate, blue seas and golden beaches. Holidays in Skiathos are ideal for those who love nightlife, shopping, crowded beaches, fun and entertainment. Those seeking a traditional quiet Greek holiday should try the other Sporades or any of the countless islands that make up this wonderful country.
The Greek way of life is slow and relaxed - and you will find yourself slowing down to their pace on a Greek holiday.

Popular resorts in Greece and the Greek Islands

Athens.
Most of the city’s ancient sights are within easy walking distance of Syntagma Square at the centre of Athens. The Acropolis and Parthenon are Athens’ major tourist attraction, but also worth visiting is the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch and the Panathenian Stadium of the first modern Olympic Games. Athens’ past is captured at the National Archaeological Museum. For a panoramic view of the city, take the funicular to the top of Lycabettus Hill. The best nightlife is around the Plaka and Psirri.

Corfu
is one of the favourite destinations in the Greek islands. With a vast choice of resorts to suit all tastes - from the lively to the reklaxing - Corfu has it.

Santorini
is an up market island that offers beautiful scenery with popular black sandy beaches along the east coast. Steeped in history, there are many archaeological sites on the island such as the ruins of ancient Thira and the Venetian fortress at Pirgos. Visit the spectacular 11th century Byzantine church of Episkopi Gonia, and the ghost town of Meso Gonia. and who could visit Santorini without seeing its famous volcano. Cruise the Caldera before setting foot on the volcanic island of Nea Kameni and swim in the hot springs at Palaia Kameni.

Kefalonia
is a haven for beach lovers with its sand and shingle coves, sheltered bays and inlets. Kefalonia is a sleepy, relaxed island but the capital of Argostoli has a lively central square.
It is the largest of the Ionian islands, and offers a stunning contrast of fragrant pine forests, beautiful beaches and mountainous backdrops and is famous for being location for the Hollywood blockbuster 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'. Visit the 150-million year old Drogarati Caves and the breathtaking underground lake of Melissani, followed by St Gerasimos Monastery.

Lefkas
is a tiny island off the Greek mainland that can only be reached across a drawbridge over the Lefkas Canal. Lefkas means white and the island gets its name from its dramatic white rock cliffs. The island is picturesque, the east coast having endless protected olive groves and vineyards and the south coast has dramatic cliffs and coves and is excellent for exploring by foot. Lefkas is the fourth largest of the Ionian islands and thanks to its calm waters and wide bays, is a haven to the sailing set during the summer months

Rhodes
has a long history because of its strategic position as an island on several trading routes and was routinely attracted invaders. Rhodes also has the best sunshone record of all the Greek islands.
