selection of water sports. The capital of Mauritius, Port Louis, is
bustling with activity during the day but by night it is more laid
back with the exception of the Le Caudan Waterfront where there is a
casino, shops, bars and restaurants.
Le Morne and Tamarin with
their waterfalls are lovely, and popular for surfing. Flic en Flac's
sands are fringed with casuarina trees, and in the southeast, Blue Bay
is a popular bathing spot. Don't miss the little cove of Pereybere
either.
Visit the lovely, tiny
island of Ile aux Cerfs and for a fun day out, ride the giant chutes
at Waterpark Leisure Village.
There are special hot spots
for water sports on the island. The beaches of Grand Baie and La
Cuvette are fantastic for sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing as is
Blue Bay.
Playing golf in paradise is
an experience with one of the most beautiful courses at Le Touessrok,
fringed on one side by white sand and on the other by green hills, all
18 holes have views of the turquoise Indian Ocean. The island also has
a number of spas.
Dholl, yellow split peas,
feature heavily in Mauritian recipes, with specialities including
dholl purri, wheat pancake stuffed with dholl and served with a tomato
sauce and gâteaux piments - dholl and chillies deep-fried in batter.
Samosas are served at most roadside stalls. Chicken, beef and fish
curry are very popular.

Baie. The east coast's 10km stretch of beach at Belle Mare
regarded as one of the best. Grand Baie offers excellent watersports
and the beautiful beach at Le Morne stretches for 4km along the South
West peninsula.
