Paris - with its enchanting mix of
romance and culture, has often been dubbed the most romantic city in
the world. With the opening of new museums, world-class sporting
events, festive and popular events, Paris is a capital that never
sleeps.
Whether you are a newcomer or already familiar with the Paris
scene, there is a vast choice awaiting you: over 1,800 classified
monuments, 170 museums, 145 theatres and 380 cinemas. Some of the
cultural sites of the capital are absolute musts and Paris has among
the most visited monuments in the world. Several of them have Unesco
world heritage status.
Not least ofcourse is the Eiffel Tower, one of the most popular
tourist attractions in the world. The plan to build a tower 300 metres
high was born as part of preparations for the World Fair of 1889. With
two million visitors the first year and almost six million people a
year today, the Eiffel Tower is a real crowd puller. At the crossroads
of the world, more than 200 million visitors have come since its
construction. It's not surprising when you consider the Eiffel Tower
is the monument that best symbolizes Europe.
Paris, however, is not just a historical city. Its riverbanks and
neighbourhoods, some of which retain a village atmosphere, are an
invitation to stroll and sightsee. By day or by night, from Belleville
to the Marais, from the Butte aux Cailles to Montmartre, soak up the
special ambience of these quartiers to grasp the true “spirit” of the
city and let yourself be carried away by its energy and vitality.
The left bank - The Latin
Quarter is home to the Sorbonne, countless book stalls, a motley
collection of galleries and a medley of street performers in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Once the haunt of great painters and poets, Montparnasse is a great
place for people-watching.
The right bank - The Etoile,
with its most famous monument the Arc de Triomphe, is the centrepiece
of the city. The 12-pointed star is formed by some of the world’s most
prestigious boulevards, including the Champs Elysées with the Lido and
its Bluebell Girls, and the Place de la Concorde and Tuileries
Gardens.
The Paris Metro is
extensive, good value and runs from around 5.30am until midnight.
Buses run from 6.30am-9pm, while the RER provides a fast train link to
the city from the suburbs.
And ofcourse there is Disneyland Resort Paris
with its amazing rides and shows to thrill all ages.
