Isola Rossa.
Situated on the north west coast
of Sardinia, Isola Rossa, or Red Island, is a former fishing village
whose name is derived from the small island, formed by pink granite
crystals, that lies just offshore. Now evolving into a popular
tourist resort it has a pretty marina and harbour front lined with
shops, bars, restaurants and pizzerias, and three beautiful sandy
beaches.
Stintino.
Lined with quaint pastel
coloured houses, historic Stintino has some of the best beaches in
Italy, particularly La Pelosa, which has fine white sand and crystal
azure sea more typical of tropical locations. Deep inlets have
created two striking harbours which are lined with charming
restaurants specialising in unique fish dishes and there are many
activities on offer such as sailing and horse riding, and the annual
boat race at the end of August is a big highlight.
Alghero.
Alghero is an ancient walled town steeped in
history. Ruled by the Catalans for over 400 years its past dates
back to the 12th century and behind its fortifications lie a myriad
of cobbled streets and quaint buildings, attractive squares and
ornate churches, with the highlight being the 16th century Santa
Maria Cathedral. Alghero's long history as a fishing port is still
evident today and the harbour area has numerous waterfront
restaurants and local stalls.
Torre delle
Stelle. Torre delle Stelle is a
popular resort with wonderful sea views across the Gulf of Cagliari.
Although just a small resort, it proudly boasts a glorious white
sandy beach. A wider selection of amenities can be reached within a
fifteen minute drive at the nearby town of Villasimius.
Flumini.
Flumini is a quiet seaside town is
situated to the east of Cagliari and offers an ideal base for
exploring the south east coast of Sardinia. The area offers several
bars and restaurants while a fifteen minute drive will take you into
the centre of Cagliari where you will find an abundance of eateries
as well as many historical sites to explore. Flumini boasts its own
uncommercial beach and several other beaches are nearby including
Poetto, Cagliari's most popular beach.
Capitanna.
Capitanna lies to the east of Cagliari, within
a fifteen minute drive from the town centre and port and has a sandy
beach extending from Cagliari.
Castelsardo.
Castelsardo sits just north of Alghero along a
panoramic coastal road to the town of Castelsardo and its medieval
centre, built on top of a hill overlooking the Gulf of Asinara.
