South Africa is a diverse land of
picturesque beaches and stunning scenery and wildlife.
South Africa is
made of of several countries all with their own culture and is
blessed with an idyllic climate.
There are so many places to see it is hard
to know where to start. Cape Town's Table Mountain, the
breathtaking Victoria Falls in Zambia, Namibia’s ancient rock
paintings in the Drakensberg Mountains, the scuba-diver’s reef
paradise in Mozambique, the battlefields in Zulu kingdom, the
Okavango Delta in Botswana or why not hire a car and take the
lush Garden Route on South Africa’s Western Cape and look out
for whales at Plettenberg Bay between July and November.
The Republic of South Africa
was formed in 1961 and covers the southern tip of Africa and an
area of 1,2 million square kilometers. South Africa, the Rainbow
Nation is world renowned for its diversity of people, its
striking mountain landscapes, rolling wine estates and
incredible wildlife.
With 2,800km of amazing coastline, South Africa has some
of the best beaches in the world. Try Camps Bay on the Western Cape
and Clifton on the Atlantic Seaboard.
Track the ‘Big Five’ in
Kruger National Park on South Africa safari vacations and safari
holidays. Stay in game lodges or travel through South Africa’s lush
valleys and vast winelands, and visit the cosmopolitan metropolis of
Johannesburg. If you are into sport, South Africa has to be one of
the best sporting holiday destinations in the world with cricket,
rugby, diving, hiking, rock climbing and rafting.
Try a good old barbeque,
locally known as a braai, served up with spicy Boerewors, farmer
sausages, and washed down with wine from South Africa’s famous
vineyards. In restaurants, you will find a mixture of international
and traditional Cape Malay dishes. If you like to shop, you can hit
the malls in cosmopolitan Cape Town, stroll the Indian bazaars in
Durban and pick up traditional crafts in Zulu villages.
Popular resorts
in South Africa
Cape
Town.
Undeniably a stunningly beautiful city, Cape Town offers culture,
beaches at the coast and unforgettable views from the top of
the huge Table Mountain. The Victoria & Albert Waterfront by Table
Bay Harbour is a lovely renovated collection of shops, restaurants,
markets, museums and theatres. With a backdrop of Table Mountain,
Cape Town is close to one end of the world-renowned Kruger National
Park. You’ll also find
the Two Oceans Aquarium with sea creatures from the Indian and
Atlantic oceans. Surrounding Cape Town are many ostrich farms and
you can even ride one! Cape Point, one of the greatest landmarks in
the world, is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet and don't
miss the Cape of Good Hope.
Johnannesburg. Johannesburg is a big
sprawling city and though all the hotels and major malls have moved
to the northern suburbs, some of the city center is enjoying a
renaissance. Today Johannesburg
is the gold capital of the world and is known as the City of Gold
after the discovery of gold here in 1886. The area near City Hall
and the Newtown Cultural Precinct has been completely renovated.
Soweto is well worth a visit, although you should take a guided
tour. It is the country's largest city and just 50kms from the
capital Pretoria.
Port Elizabeth.
Port Elizabeth is well placed to make the most of good but quiet
beaches and interesting history-rich countryside. The city also
makes a good base from which to visit the Addo Elephant National
Park and the scenic Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area.
Phinda. Set amongst the lush Maputaland region of
northern Kwazulu Natal and managed by CC Africa, Phinda, almost
fifty thousand acres of natural and indigenous habitat, borders the
Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.
Kwazulu Natal. Known as South Africa's garden
province it stretches along the east coast to the border with
Mozambique. This is an area of lush green valleys, wonderful
subtropical coastline and dramatic mountains.
Shamwari. Set on the Bushmans River, a short drive
from Port Elizabeth, Shamwari, steeped in history has reclaimed
settlers land, returning it to the wildlife that once roamed freely
on the Cape. Working along side the Born Free foundation, the
reserve is a real favourite.
Durban. Durban is famous for its Golden Mile of
beaches and hotels which makes it great for a holiday or as a base
for exploring other parts of the province, such as a Zulu cultural
village or a snake park. Durban has become famous in South Africa as
the home of hot, spicy curry dishes.
Eastern Cape. There are some excellent game viewing
opportunities in the Eastern Cape. Much is said about spotting the
'big 5' (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) and here you
have a good chance to see all of them
